Success in triathlon is the result of the optimal balance of volume, intensity, strength, recovery, and science. My coaching places a large emphasis on building a strong aerobic foundation and complementing it with strength and anaerobic power for optimal performance on race day. While every athlete is unique, I believe that most athletes will benefit from a polarized approach to training. This consists of easy aerobic volume and high intensity intervals, along with adequate race pace training.
As a physical therapy student, I believe that specific strength training is important for enhancing athletic performance and preventing injury. Just as important is the application of scientific research to improve training, recovery, and race performance.
I am a USA Triathlon Level I Certified Coach with experience racing and training for all levels of triathlon. I am a former member and the current coach of the Maryland Triathlon Team at the University of Maryland College Park and am an assistant coach for the Mini Cow Triathlon Club. Through coaching age group athletes, collegiate athletes, and youth and junior triathletes, I understand how athletes of all levels have unique needs and should to be treated as such.
I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a B.S. in Kinesiology, with an emphasis on biomechanics and exercise physiology. I am currently pursuing my degree as a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. I apply all of my cumulative knowledge as well as the most up-to-date research to facilitate success with all my athletes.
As a competitive age group athlete myself, I understand the process it takes to be successful. Hard work, determination, and drive have resulted in numerous podium performances and age group wins, including qualifying for and completing the Ironman World Championships in 2014. This personal experience guides my decisions as a coach.
